Crew count at the peak
Count the largest number of people on site at once, subcontractors included. Maricopa County's rule counts persons on the project and OSHA's table counts employees, so the peak crew drives both.
Construction and remodels
A job site or remodel needs restrooms for everyone working there, for as long as the work lasts. We plan porta potties, hand-wash stations, or a restroom trailer around your crew size, work areas, site access, and schedule, with servicing and pickup set from the start.

Your options
Crew size, distance, and servicing decide how a job-site restroom plan works. Settle these before delivery.
Count the largest number of people on site at once, subcontractors included. Maricopa County's rule counts persons on the project and OSHA's table counts employees, so the peak crew drives both.
Maricopa County requires job toilets on or within 200 feet of each work area. On a spread-out site, that can mean porta potties in more than one spot instead of one trailer at the gate.
A restroom only helps if it stays usable. Agree on a servicing schedule and keep a route open for the service vehicle as the site changes.
When people live or work in the building during a remodel, place the trailer away from the work zone, on a path occupants can use without crossing it.
Planning the work
Maricopa County's Environmental Health Code says construction, erection, alteration, repair, or razing projects need toilets "for the use of persons on the project in a ratio of at least one (1) toilet per twenty (20) persons," on or within 200 feet of each work area. OSHA's construction standard, 29 CFR 1926.51(c), sets its own table based on the number of employees. Our guide to how many toilets a construction site needs works through both with examples.
Under the 2010 ADA Standards, section 203.2, portable toilet units provided for use exclusively by construction personnel on a construction site do not have to meet the accessible toilet requirements. If anyone else will use the restrooms, ADA-accessible portable restrooms are available to add to the site.
What happens next
Send the site address, start date, expected length, peak crew size, and where the work areas are.
We confirm placement, access, servicing, power, and water.
The restrooms are delivered and set up before the crew needs them.
Servicing follows the agreed schedule, and everything is picked up when the work is done.
Common questions
The county text names alteration and repair projects as well as new construction and demolition. If you are not sure your project is covered, ask Maricopa County Environmental Services.
Yes. Tell us the expected length and we plan servicing for the full rental, then adjust the schedule and pickup date if the project timeline changes.
Name one person on site, such as the superintendent, who can keep the service route open and tell us when the crew size or work areas change.
Say so in your request. Porta potties need no hookups. For a restroom trailer, we confirm the exact power and water needs before delivery and talk through what the site has available.
Porta potties suit open sites, spread-out work areas, and early phases with no utilities. A restroom trailer suits occupied remodels, office trailers, and long projects where people want an indoor-style restroom. Some sites use both.
