Hand-wash stations
A portable hand-washing station gives people a place to wash their hands where there is no sink: beside a group of porta potties, near a food line, or at the edge of a job site. We plan how many you need, where they go, and when they are serviced.

Your options
A hand-wash station helps only if people walk past it and it stays usable. Plan these four things.
Set stations where people walk right after the restroom, not around a corner. A station nobody sees goes unused.
Sink lines form at the same breaks as restroom lines. For a crowd, plan enough stations that washing does not turn into a second line.
A station people cannot use does nothing. On long days and multi-day rentals, agree on servicing times that fall before the busy periods.
Splashes leave the ground around a station damp. Choose a spot where that will not matter: away from electrical cords, dance floors, and soft lawn.
Planning the work
OSHA's construction sanitation standard covers washing in 29 CFR 1926.51(f). Under (f)(1), employers must provide "adequate washing facilities for employees engaged in the application of paints, coating, herbicides, or insecticides, or in other operations where contaminants may be harmful to the employees. Such facilities shall be in near proximity to the worksite and shall be so equipped as to enable employees to remove such substances." Under (f)(3), "Lavatories shall be made available in all places of employment," except for mobile crews and normally unattended work locations whose employees have transportation readily available to nearby washing facilities.
The same paragraph lists what a lavatory needs: hot and cold or tepid running water, hand soap or a similar cleansing agent, and individual hand towels or air blowers. Whoever runs safety on the site decides how the site meets those rules, so tell us what your safety plan calls for and we will place stations around it.
Put a station beside every group of porta potties, and more where food is served away from a building's sinks or where guests handle animals, plants, or crafts. A station at the end of a buffet line or beside a dessert table is easy to find.
Food vendors follow their own health rules for hand washing in their booths. Ask the event organizer what the vendors bring, and plan guest stations separately.
What happens next
Tell us where the restrooms, food, and work areas will be, and how many people will be there at the busiest time.
We recommend how many stations to place and where, and set a servicing schedule if the rental runs more than a day.
The stations are delivered and set up with the rest of the order.
We pick them up with the restrooms when the event or project ends.
Common questions
Plan at least one beside each group of porta potties, then add stations near food and anywhere hands get dirty. Share your headcount, hours, and a rough site layout and we will suggest a number.
OSHA's rule for construction, 29 CFR 1926.51(f)(3), says lavatories shall be made available in all places of employment, with exceptions for mobile crews and normally unattended locations that have transportation to washing facilities. Your safety lead decides how the site meets it.
Yes, when the ground is level and firm. Tell us the surface when you ask for a quote, and keep stations off freshly watered lawn, which turns muddy fast.
Yes. They rent by the day, week, or month, and we set a servicing schedule with you for the length of the rental.
